24 November 11
Following its installation, our new Toshiba Cardiac Catheterisation laboratory has now been officially opened by former BBC television presenter Nicholas Owen.
On November 17th, the new catheterisation laboratory was officially opened, with a few words of congratulation given by former BBC presenter Nicholas Owen, Consultant Cardiologist Dr Charles Pumphrey and St Anthony's Hospital Director Mr Brian Clarke.
The Catheterisation laboratory provides detailed images of the heart and its blood vessels, which allows high speed and accurate diagnoses of heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease, to be made. Cardiac Catheterisation also provides images crucial to procedures such as angioplasty (the inflation of a balloon to widen narrowed blood vessels) and implanting stents.
Our previous Catheterisation equipment will not be going to waste however. It has been sent to the Memon Medical Institute in Karachi, a non profit organisation in Pakistan. The hospital provides tertiary level care, with 332 beds and is 100% donor funded. We hope that the equipment will provide them with many more years of faithful service.
